The small entrance to Feeka coffee roaster, you could miss that if you were to drive too fast.
Coffee drinking culture is not a new
trend in Malaysia. We enjoy the local coffee with or without milk brews from
Liberica, and later on everyone will at least try out the big coffee chain like
Starbucks or Coffee Beans and Tea Leaves once. Then, there are many independent
cafes booming ever since the third wave coffee trend started, which has been
long in the other sides of the world. People tend to appreciate coffee more
than before.
Coffee is one of the things I can’t
live without and I consider café hopping to be a fun thing to do especially on
weekends.
I couldn’t remember how I came across
Feeka Coffee Roaster, but I surely know it’s a place I would want to find out
if they serve good coffee. Besides, I would want to get some whole beans from
them, too.
Cosy ambient in the café.
The café is not difficult to locate
if you have a GPS, but getting a parking lot can be tricky. The café is located
at one of the old shop lots in Jalan Mesui near Jalan Alor or Golden Triangle. It
has both the outdoor and indoor seats at your choice. The indoor seats are very
comfy, there’s a long stretch of bench seating and chairs on the left from the
entrance, which is sufficient for 20 customers or more, and another small
lounge like area with sofas on the right from the entrance for a group of 6-8 customers.
Nice barista counter and macines. The hand brew counter is on the left while cashier is on the right. The customers could take the counter seats and watch them brew the coffee.
The waiter handed us a very simple and
text-only menu with good selection of hot food, sandwiches and drinks. Besides
espresso based coffee, Feeka also brews single origin coffee with aeropress,
pour over and even cold brew. Although we prefer to see a menu with pictures,
we are still happy to be adventurous once a while to pick something we think we’ll
like it. After all, that’s what we do, pick and try.
The text-only menu. A good selection of coffee.
We ordered a café latte, steak &
fries and salsa sea bass for lunch. The café latte was served in a 6-oz glass, tasted
balanced and good. The steak and fries was plain and simple. The salsa sea bass
came with attractive presentation. The pan-fried sea bass was served on a plate
of chunky mashed potato and topped with fresh tomato salsa. The non-spicy salsa
was just a little sour and lightly taste, good match for sea bass as I could
still taste the sweetness of the fish.
6-oz café latte at RM 10
Steak & Fries at RM 24
Salsa sea bass at RM 21
I have to say the portion is quite
small but it was just enough for me. So that leaves the customer an option to pick
up some desserts from the bar. The dessert looks generous in portion at price
of RM 10 – 15.
There's a dessert bar next to the cashier and some coffee beans for sale.
Overall, it is a pleasant café with
good selection of food, definitely good latte. I have yet to try the hand brew
coffee, but sitting near the barista counter and looking at how they do it
makes me planning to return for it. Not forgetting, I also brought home a pack
of Brazil beans for espresso, it has pleasant aroma and tasted medium acidity,
sweet with dark chocolate after-taste.
